Terms of use

Last updated: 11 October 2026

This is a translation for convenience. The German version is the binding one.

These terms apply to the Bookspire app, offered by Michael Rödiger (contact details in the legal notice). By creating an account you agree to them. You can use the app without an account and without agreeing to them – then everything stays on your device.

1. Who may create an account

You may create an account if you are at least 16 years old. One account per person; the name you give must not pass you off as someone else.

2. What Bookspire offers

Bookspire helps you log your books and your reading progress and rewards you with a reading room that grows. With an account, your data is synced between your devices, and you can find friends, recommend books to them and visit their towers.

Bookspire is currently free. If paid features are added later, we will announce them in the app beforehand; purchases are then made through the App Store or Google Play under their terms. Nothing you have used for free until then will be charged retroactively.

3. Treating each other with respect

On Bookspire, friends see your name, your books, notes and recommendations as far as you share them. For everything you show there: we do not tolerate objectionable content or abusive behaviour. In particular, the following is not allowed:

4. Reporting and blocking

If you see something that breaks these rules, you can report and block the person in the app. Blocked people no longer see anything from you and can no longer send you anything. We usually review reports within 24 hours. If content breaks these rules, we remove it and may suspend or delete the account of the person who posted it. We will let you know if we change any of your content because of a report, and you can object at kontakt@bookspire.de.

5. Your content

What you enter in Bookspire – books, ratings, notes, recommendations – remains yours. You only allow us to store it and show it to the people you share it with, for as long as you have your account. Blurbs and covers come from the sources named and belong to their rights holders.

6. Availability

We try to run Bookspire reliably but cannot promise the server is always available. Your data is also kept on your device; you can export a backup in the app at any time. Features may change or be removed; we announce significant changes in the app.

7. Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health. For slight negligence we are only liable if an essential obligation is breached, and then limited to the typical, foreseeable damage. Liability under the German Product Liability Act remains unaffected.

8. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app – see Delete your account. If someone seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, we may suspend or delete their account.

9. Changes to these terms

If these terms change, we announce it in the app. Significant changes only apply once you agree to them; if you do not agree, you can delete your account.

10. Final provisions

German law applies. Mandatory consumer protection rules of the country you live in remain unaffected. If a provision is invalid, the rest remain valid.
